My name is Han Schrijver and I have been breeding English budgerigars for decades. I am also an international judge and have already been to many countries and visited many enthusiast breeders. What I especially noticed is that there is a lot of difference in nutrition among the breeders. I mean both the composition of the basic food (seeds) and the extra food that is given. I have also given different compositions to my birds and from different suppliers. I am always working on  improvement.

Personally, I believe that a well-composed seed mixture should be sufficient for an English budgerigar to live. Of course a bird needs grit (in some form). It certainly doesn't hurt that good concentrates are given to the birds as an extra during breeding. Over the years I have also used many seed mixtures(compositions) from different manufacturers/suppliers and various brands as basic food for my birds. The food was well eaten.

In 2023, I first came into contact with bird seed from the Vanrobayes company through a colleague budgerigar breeder and his excellent seed composition. It is my opinion that a very large part of the budgerigar's diet will have to consist of seeds and grains (mainly carbohydrates) and the Vanrobayes excellent version certainly meets this requirement. My birds now eat the containers completely empty and all types of seed are consumed. Since I have been feeding this food, the condition of my birds has been very good and breeding results are much better. For me, the switch to supplier/producer Vanrobaeys was a very good decision.
